National Water Safety Management Programme (NWSMP)

Do you work near water? Or plan trips, manage people and activities that do? Then this should be a priority for you and your staff/colleagues.

  • Relevant to a wide range of sectors, including teaching (field trips), construction, environmental health, leisure and the emergency services.
  • Fulfills the water safety training needs of a wide range of users (reflecting the range of activities that take place in and around the water’s edge.
  • Endorsed by the Health and Safety Executive for its sensible, proportionate, reasonable and balanced advice to both those responsible for groups around the water margin or workers operating in, on or near water and in particular managing the risk from operating around the water margin.

The course comes in three levels:

Level 1

For anyone working near water with no intention of entering it, this will give you the tools to make a water safety management plan and implement it to safeguard against hazards in the environment.

Duration: Minimum learning time of 6 hours (with 2 hours pre-course learning).

Venue: Swansea

Cost: £75 per person

Level 2

Essential for anyone who intends to work on the water margins, this continues to expand the understanding of environment specific hazards. It gives you the skills to minimise the risks involved in operating in such close proximity to water and techniques to effect a throw or reach rescue should this be required.

Duration: A further 3 hours (involving both theory and practical).

Venue: Swansea

Cost: £100 per person

Level 3

In water rescue; if you intend delivering an activity in a controlled environment that will involve people entering the water, an example would be; A leader with responsibility for a group who will be swimming in known waters (beyond standing depth) under controlled conditions or where there is a risk that a member of a group may enter deeper water and need assistance. This course will give you the skills to execute a rescue in deep water in that environment.

Duration: A minimum of a further 4 hours.

Venue: Swansea
